Dialysis Career Institute is a 16 week program designed for a motivated and compassionate individual who is interested in pursuing a carrer in the medical field as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician.

The program is taught based on the Amgen Core Curriculum for Dialysis Technicians Edition 5 and based on the policies and procedures mandated by State and Federal regulations.

Students have complete training on 2008K Fresenius and 2008H dialysis machines. They are trained in cannulation practice with artificial arm fistulas and grafts.

The classroom simulates a clinic setting to expose the student to a more realistic experience prior to clinical practice.

The program is highly recommended for Licensed Vocational and Registered Nurses interested in nephrology specialty, including medical staff that is currently working in Hemodialysis and has a goal of successfully passing the National Exam.

Dialysis Career Institute instructors and preceptors are certified by the Department of Public Health and Human Services. They possess exceptional skills and extensive background education in Hemodialysis, to successfully train you in becoming a Certified Hemodialysis Technician. The Certified Hemodialysis Technician is recognized by the State and required to obtain a National Certification to become license and obtain a career as a Certified Clinical Nephrologists Technologist (CCNT) or a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT).

Monday and Wednesday Class from 5pm to 9pm

PROGRAM CONTENT:

* Principles of Hemodialysis * Physiology and Pathophysiology of Renal Failure * Basic Chemistry, Body Fluids and Electrolytes * End Stage Renal Disease- Clinical Manifestations * Learning the Hemodialysis Team * Treatment Options for Kidney Patients * Care of Patients with Kidney Failure, including interpersonal skills * Dialysis procedures and documentation * Vascular Access, proper cannulation techniques * Treatment initiation, monitoring treatment and termination of dialysis * Infection Control * Safety * Dialyzers, Dialysate and Delivery System * Water Treatment * Anticoagulation for dialysis treatment * Complications, Treatments and Documentation * Emergency Situations and Plan of Action * Dialyzer reprocessing.

Program Requirements for Admission:

1. High School Diploma verification.
2. Valid California Identification and Social Security number identification.
3. Achieve a rating of 80% satisfactory in all areas of the curriculum to successfully complete the program.

The Hemodialysis Training Program consists of sixteen weeks that combines 110 hours of theory (average of 7-10 weeks depending on student progress) and 210 hours of clinical training, (average to 6-9 weeks in clinical, depending on hours of shifts; 8 or 12hr days) for a total of 320 hours of instruction. All students are provided with a personal stethoscope and water proof watch to accurately obtain vital signs and assess patient’s access during clinical practice. Externship will be offered to those students with a 90% achievement in the course and “only” after successfully passing the CDC (California Dialysis Council) exam, and obtain a CPR/BLS certification. Upon completion of internship program student will be referred for job placement.
